Humanitarian Aid
Our Purpose
God is a God of compassion. Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, and encouraged the poor and neglected, and His disciples taught us to take care of widows and orphans. Our purpose is to follow the Lord's example in meeting physical and emotional needs, while at the same time taking advantage of opportunities to meet the deeper spiritual need of the gospel.
Our Challenge
We know that we will never be able to meet all the physical needs of people. Jesus warned that the of the end of the age would be marked by an increase in war, famine and earthquakes (Matthew 24:6-7). And he said, “You will always have the poor with you.” (Matthew 26:11). Yet he also said that when we feed the hungry, show hospitality to a stranger, clothe the naked, or visit the sick and imprisoned, “Just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
Our Solution
One of the values of StoryRunners is for God's Word to flow freely into all segments of a people group. We are committed to intentionality in this area of need by focusing special efforts on women (especially in Muslim and Hindu cultures where the gospel might not flow freely between men and women). We are also developing special strategies for children, Deaf communities, families affected by HIV/AIDS, and other groups that have often been overlooked by traditional mission strategies. Storying strategies interwoven with holistic ministries such as job training programs, village health care, and disaster relief will touch the needy with God's love.
Strategy
Existing story sets such as “God and Woman” and “Grief Stories” provide models for Bible story sets that can be developed to meet specific needs. See the strategy pages for women and the Deaf as examples of special outreaches now in progress.
