planting churches among unreached people groups

Women Reaching Women by Telling the Stories of God

Overview

Because of cultural and other factors, women in unreached people groups need to hear the gospel from other women. The best way we have found to reach them is by telling Bible stories in their heart language, since stories clearly communicate the gospel in a way that speaks to the heart and does not provoke defensiveness. Join us in telling God’s stories to women while compassionately meeting their other felt needs. We can be part of the process God uses to rescue, restore and transform women’s lives.

The Challenge

Poverty stricken. Terrified. Diseased. Shamed. Current evangelism and church planting strategies are often not connecting effectively with the millions of women who live daily under the harshest conditions. In many areas of the world where the men are coming to Christ, the women are not being reached. For example, if a man from a Muslim or Hindu background becomes a Christian, he may lead his whole family to also follow Jesus. But after the man dies, his wife may return to her old beliefs because no one clearly explained the faith to her.

In places like Sudan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, and Kashmir, war and conflict leave countless widows and orphans who become outcasts with no one to care for them. As a result, many women find themselves trapped in virtual prisons of despair.

How You Can Reach Them

You can help touch the hearts and lives of women in unreached people groups by sharing Bible stories that show God’s love for women. A set of worldview-sensitive and culturally relevant stories reveal that God wants to have a relationship with women, not just men. You can share the stories within your own ministry context, or help train small teams of national women to develop story sets on-site and to share them in small groups of women and children.

Once the stories take root, they travel quickly between nomadic tents or thatched huts. Women easily share with other women while doing regular household duties, like collecting water from the local well, watching children, cooking meals, and tending fields and livestock. Naturally, the Good News makes its way into the ears of children who otherwise are completely cut off from hearing God’s Word. Since women strongly influence the emerging worldviews of future generations shaping their lives and beliefs, the stories you teach them will continue influencing people long after you are gone.

Take the Next Step

StoryRunners can help you get started by training you or your team to evangelize or disciple using Bible stories. In some cases, there may be no scripture available in the local language, and in this case we can guide you through the process of translating the stories for the first time.

You can also help by sponsoring new projects to reach women. We have national women missionaries ready to reach their own people, but they need to be trained and sent through your generous gifts.

If you represent another ministry or agency who is already helping women through vocational training, health care, parental training or humanitarian aid, we can help you add storying to your existing strategies.

We would love to talk to you about your dreams for reaching women for Christ. Please fill out the contact form below. You will receive a link to our Story Tapestry training manual, which contains a general women’s story set to get you started.

Let's connect! We'll start by sending you a link to the Story Tapestry Manual.
